The popular Chinese web novel Lord of Mysteries is being adapted into an ambitious massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) that aims to bring its dark and mysterious universe to life.
Developed by Spark Nexa, the upcoming title leverages the power of Unreal Engine 5 to recreate the dangerous and supernatural atmosphere of the original work written by Cuttlefish That Loves Diving with remarkable detail and visual fidelity.
First Look at the Gameplay
The project has officially unveiled its first gameplay footage, showcasing high-fidelity graphics that capture the unique blend of genres that define the franchise.
The universe of Lord of Mysteries is known for combining historical Victorian aesthetics with elements of the Cthulhu Mythos and steampunk technology. This distinctive visual and thematic identity is clearly reflected in the newly released footage.
In the latest video, players are introduced to the city of Tingen, one of the most important locations for readers of the novel.
The footage highlights:
- European-style architecture
- Gas-lit streets
- A fog-filled industrial atmosphere
All of this demonstrates the studio’s strong commitment to faithful and immersive world-building.
You Won’t Play as Klein Moretti
One of the most important decisions in this adaptation concerns the playable protagonist.
According to the Spark Nexa development team, players will not control Klein Moretti, the original protagonist of the web novel.
Instead, each player will create and control a completely original character, forging their own destiny within the mysterious world of the Beyonders.
This decision prioritizes building a living, breathing world over strictly retelling the original storyline.
Designed for Both New Players and Long-Time Fans
By allowing players to embody their own avatars, the MMORPG aims to remain accessible to newcomers who have never read the novel while still offering deep lore for long-time fans of the series.
This approach also provides greater freedom to explore:
- The complex magic systems
- Political conspiracies
- Secret organizations
- Supernatural threats
All without being restricted by the established timeline of the original books.
Closed Beta Registration Now Open
Registration is currently open for the game’s first closed beta test, inviting eager fans to experience the world of the Beyonders firsthand.
The current build supports both Chinese and English text, suggesting a strong global focus for the title. Information regarding Japanese localization is expected to be announced at a later date.
Applications for the closed beta will remain open until February 1, with the test scheduled to begin on February 5.
